Now serving numbers 2 and 3
I'm working on two IHS at the moment. I do have to admit that I've been really slacking with my knitting lately. I should be much further along with both of these by now.
It's very hard to get a non-blurry photo of heathered yarn.
Just Joined
Hi - I am the other Adelle - the one at Knitmodo that I linked to above. I found this KAL and had to join. I love making cables. I haven't bought the yarn yet - can anyone make some good recommendations? I would love a wool blend - perhaps alpaca/wool? Silk/wool? I just want it to be really soft yet hold up to wear. And I love to take advice from other knitters and find new yarns. :)
Looking forward to meeting you all and I hope you come visit me at Knitmodo. http://www.knitmodo.com

Another Newbie
Hi all! My name is Leigh Ann from Sarnia, Ontario. The Irish Hiking Scarf is gorgeous! Thank you for letting me participate.
I started it today in line ready to cross the border. Got 12 rows done by the time we got through and realized that I screwed up. rip it, rip it. I am making it for my hubby for Christmas. I am using Patons Canadianna in Navy Blue. Looks great and I will post pictures later when we get back from holidays. Also, I am using a size 6mm needle. I have done cables before and am doing great its row 2 that keeps throwing me off! duh!! Shouldn't work on it while the kids have a dvd going in the car.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi - this will be my first project with cables
Hi! My name is Charity and I'm in Seattle. This scarf will be my first project with cables. I figure I'll be very good at them by the time I'm done. I'll be using Debbie Bliss merino aran in a lovely dark green with cranberry for the edges. I'll post a picture of my progress soon! Wish me luck!

Finished IHS
I finished the Irish Hiking Scarf in just under 8 months. When I began knitting, it was actually a bit chilly outside. But the photo above was taken in 100-degree (F) weather. The irony isn't lost on me. ;-) I enjoyed this pattern, the yarn I chose (Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride from the stash) and the color (Tiger Lily). I'd definitely knit one again and recommend it to anybody who hasn't tried knitting cables yet. By the time you're finished knitting the scarf, you truly "get" cables.
Thank you for a wonderful Knit-Along!

Greetings!
I recently started my Irish Hiking Scarf on a long drive and made a lot of progress. Since then, it has been sitting by the wayside while I finished other projects. I'm hoping this KAL will encourage me to get it finished!
The scarf is knit out of Patons Classic Wool Merino in dark natural. I'm using size 9 needles since I am a relatively tight knitter. The finished scarf will be a holiday present for my father!
Feel free to stop by my blog to hear more about my knitting family, our spinning wheel shenanigans, and the adventures of Sock.

First Scarf Progress
Since this is my first attempt at cables I used the yarn that was handy and worsted weight. That meant Red Heart Super Saver acrylic. Before I officially tried to join this KAL I started the scarf using the pattern provided. I have been working on it at home mostly.
At this point it is about 31 inches long and I am still on the first skein. Although I am still having problems keeping my tension even, I think I have been getting better with the cables. The attached device in the pic is just a simple row counter that I made so I don't lose track. It needs some work since I did not have something that would definitely prevent beads moving on or off the inner counting ring. So I try to complete the cable row before having to put it away while commuting.

Moderated comments
Due to some moron who had nothing better to do than post comment spam all night long for several days, I've had to enable the "moderate comments" feature. It was a PITA to delete EACH AND EVERY ONE, but I think they're all gone. Rest assured, comments will be posted (unless, of course, it's comment spam).

My first few inches of Irish Scarf
Hello, dear friends!
I joined both KAL (the Irish Hiking Scarf and the Conquering Cables). Since the project applies to both, here it is. I have begun my very first scarf with cables... following the pattern given by the blog's homepage. I am enjoying this very much. It knits up quite quickly, and the cable isn't difficult... I bought a cable needle and I enjoy it, although sometimes I am not very sure how to handle it when it's hanging in front of work. Sometimes it gets stucked with the work while I am trying to knit the first three stitches before those on the cable.. oh well :) About the yarn: It's called "Colore", by "Rubí" - this is made in Seville. I haven't been able to find it anywhere on the Internet. I am afraid it is an obscure brand made exclusively for a big commercial centre (El corte inglés). Anyway, here is the beginning of the scarf.
**** ******** ********* ************* **** ** * * *** *****************
The yarn is multicoloured but the cables show up nicely. It really looks lovely, more than in the photographs (isn't that frustrating?). Anyway, I am going to continue this. I have two balls... it should server. They measure some 260meters together.

Would love to hear your comments :) Look how it mixes in a lovely way with my "ocean" ribbing scarf (also under "construction" :D
Love,
Flavio
First Finished IHS
I finished my first IHS!
It is 70 inches long, knit in Lion's Brand Fishermen's Wool on size 8 needles. It took almost the full skein to knit.
I am going to start another one here before long, for myself. And a great-uncle has been hinting at wanting one himself, so that may be a Yule gift this year.

So, first off, Hello! My Name is Kaity, and I just joined this Knit-along. I love this pattern! The scarf is looking great! I actually took it with me yesterday to a concert (All American Rejects). So, here's me waiting in line (we where in line for 5 hours! But we got good seats):
Yeah, people where staring at me, but I don't care! My scarf enjoyed the opening band:
And, here's my progress as of 5 minutes ago:
I started my second half with a new ball of yarn! Yay! Half way there! I'm using Cascade 220.
Oh yeah, that stitch marker you see hanging off the side of my scarf shows from where I started this morning.

Lions Suede Yarn
My mom bought me 17 skeins of this yarn...has anyone tried it on this lovely scarf? I was hoping it would work for my mother-in-law for Christmas!
Irish Hiking Scarf #1 is FINISHED
I have finished my FIRST Irish Hiking Scarf and I love it. It is 67 inches long. I love to wrap a scarf around my neck so I made it longer than the directions called for. Here it is in all it's glory on a hot summer day by the pool. OK, I have tried to put up images several times but it is not working. Will try again later on.
