My second on is finished

Last night I finished up my 2nd scarf. I totally love this one. The mohair is so soft and seemed to be perfect for this pattern.

I recently began knitting an Irish Hiking Scarf as a Christmas present for my dad. This is my first pattern with cables, and I'm really loving it!


I'm using knit picks wool of the andes in amber

It's great being a part of this knit-a-long, I enjoy seeing pictures of peoples progress and finished projects.

First KAL and IHS

Hi everyone. I'm Jean and very excited to join this KAL and see everyone elses progress with their IHS. This is my first try knitting cables and I thought this pattern is the best thing for me to start with. This is what I have so far....

So far so good. I used Lionbrand Yarn Wool-Ease in Oxford Grey. The color is kind of blah but it was what I had in my stash. I can't wait to knit this up in other yarns and colors.

I think I still have a couple feet to go on my scarf for the Red Scarf Project. This is Red Pepper Swish, KnitPicks superwash wool.

Started my second IHS

Recently I ran across this beautiful green apple color mohair blend, the minute I seen it I knew I wanted to knit another Irish Hiking Scarf. It's turning out beautiful and I am thrilled with it. When it's finished I'll post another picture. 

IHS number 2 - The Candy Cane Scarf

Being knit for my daughter in Cascade Yarns Quatro, in a 4 ply pink and white candystripe colourway. She tells me it is her Candy Cane Scarf.

Another First Scarf, Hat musings

Started mine last night in a medium green Briggs & Little (that's at least 32 years old--remnants from a friend's baby afghan for her eldest son, but that's another story!) I was thinking of using #10's, but didn't really like the effect, so I'll stick with the requisite #8's.

Fell asleep pondering the hat dilemma...I found these patterns--One is an 11 stitch repeat, with appropriate decreases, and the other uses a three needle bind-off--more of a toque look. They are both circular, so hopefully that will quell whoever was having confusion--I'm going to try a hat when I'm done with the other couple of scarf and hat projects I'm working on! If I were making the hat, I'd CO in multiples of 12, rib an inch or two--or just CO on say #6 needles and knit an inch and then switch to 8's (circ or DPN's), in the pattern as follows *K2 P2 K6 P2, repeat around from *, cross as per pattern on Round 8, and pick your decreases when you are ready. Is that clear as mud??

First Scarf Started

Hi all, I started my first scarf, and this is my fist project with cables. So far I really like the pattern. I'm using Lion Brand Classic Wool.
Everyone else's scarves look great! I can't wait until mine is done!

Finally my first I.H.Scarf!

Dear friends,

How are you? I hope everything is fine from where you are reading this. Here the weather is still hot but a bit more bearable. I have finally been able to finish my first two scarves! One of them is the Irish Hiking Scarf we all are doing on the Knitalong blog. I hope you like it! I chose a very colourful yarn and the result is lovely. I call it "rainbow cables" :) Also, I finally was able to finish the ocean ribbing scarf (a simple 2x2 ribbing, lovely touch, it looks soooo soft!). The Ocean ribbing scarf is a present for my special one. I'll use the Irish Rainbow cable scarf in Basel, for the cold winter :)

Maybe they are a bit short (more or less 130cm) but it's ok :) I have used exactly two balls for each scarf. Good to know for other projects! I would love to do the matching Irish Hat with cables but the pattern I found is not clear... any clue?

A Convert!

I am so excited! After looking at all the finished scarves here and seeing how my IHS came out, my partner David (a relatively new knitter) has decided to try it. He just bought some grey Patons Merino and plans to start as soon as he finishes the socks he is knitting. I'll keep you posted!

Hey, dudes! I finished my first Irish hiking Scarf, and I love it! I love the color, I think it will be perfect for cheering me us in the damp, dreary days of winter. Plus, the color is pretty Irish, right? Click here for a closeup.

Yarn: Cascade 220, 2 skeins in... Color #7814. I think thats what it was, I lost the label.

Needles: US Size 9 Straight

I want yarn to cast on for another right now, they are just so fun and satisfying to make!!!

Ready for the cold, cold winter

Hurray! The scarf is finished. It was so easy to do yet not in the least bit tedious or boring. I enjoyed knitting it. It felt like butter. I used Classic Elite Inca Print Alpaca, color 4652 on size 9 bamboo needles. The label didn't have a colorway name. I'll be giving this one away to a friend who has a birthday coming up soon. I've enjoyed knowing that I was part of a group knitting away and checking in to the webpage to see what other people had used for their scarves. After finishing up a few other projects I plan to make this again for myself.
