Astounded at the response

I must say that when I first decided to start this knitalong, I expected to get *maybe* 3 or 4 people interested and signed up. Well, we have 97 knitters knitting along. I am simply astounded. I want to thank all of you for your wonderful pictures and posts, and for those of you who haven't posted, remember, we still have one more month to go, so get those posts and cameras ready :) Here is a picture of my brother sporting his new Irish Hiking scarf (and the hat I knit him). He even wore it when we went out while I was down visiting my family for the Holiday.

Just started

I just discovered the IHS yesterday and decided one would make a nice Valentine's Day gift for my husband. I started it last night using some BaaBaaJoe's I had in my stash. I'm thinking I may rip it out and use size 6 needles instead of 7 and add one more cable. So far I think it'll make a great scarf. I enjoyed seeing everyone's photos.

How Long?

I'm enjoying the pictures of the finished scarves. I'm almost done... well, maybe I am done. My scarf is almost 5 feet, and I think it might be long enough. For those of you who have finished, how long was your finished scarf?

Whew now that most of the holiday things are over I managed to find a quite moment to sit and start an IHS. Grin this yarn was supposed to be a pair of the crocheted, felted Fiber Trend slippers but DH decided he would rather have another scarf and hat for winter.....

One Scarf finished

My mother loved her IHS and her Coronot hat. I didnt' take a picture of either. I'll try and do that the next time I'm over there. Still working on my hubby's.

Trucking Along...

I'm past the halfway point on my scarf... I'm feeling bad about not finishing sooner-- it's nice & snowy today in New Jersey, and my dad's neck is probably pretty cold right about now.

Matching cable hat

I finished a cable hat to match the scarf. I posted a front and top view of it on my blog.

I really enjoyed this KAL and seeing all the different versions of this scarf. They all came out great. I'm looking forward to seeing more finished scarves.

Just Joined

Hello-- I know I'm getting in late here, but I just started the IHS (seems like most of you are done!), just joined the knitalong, and just wanted to say hello. Here's my progress so far...



I'm making it with a 100% alpaca-- I don't have the ball bands in front of me to remember exactly what it is, but it's lightweight, so I am using it doubled... it is SO soft. It's a late Chanukah gift for my dad, who for some reason is less than enthusiastic about it... hopefully he will feel differently when he sees it in person tomorrow.

I Finished Too!

I am finisehd with my scarf too! I plan to upload some pics soon. I also have cast on for one more scarf this time with the total 3 rows. I did only 2 rows last time because the recipient said she likes smaller scarves! Thanks for this great knit along!

I'm finished!

My first scarf anyway, I'm thinking of doing a second. As I don't know how to link pictures without Hello, so I'll link to my blog again. It's the second picture from the top. Finished Scarf. I used Noro Kureyon Coloroway #57 which is now discontinued. It took 4 skeins. If I could change anything, I'd have gone down a few needle sizes, because I need US 5's to get 5 st/in with a worsted weight yarn. I'm very pleased with the results. Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran version finished

I finished my scarf last week. It's made with Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran in Coal. I finally managed to post it on my blog, too. Now I'm working on a matching hat to go with this gift.

Hi All, I have finished and been wearing this very warm scarf! I used Lambs Pride in color M-130 (silver). This was such a relaxing, yet not boring project - there will be more in future days. Thanks for hosting this knitalong :)

NEW YARN

I enjoyed making the first one so much, I bought some more yarn to make one for myself!!
I bought Rose Heather Wool-Ease. I'll wait until after the holidays to get started on it!!

Finally!

I finally started my IHS yesterday with a wonderful yarn that I got at TKGA Fiber Arts Festival in Burbank, CA in October. The yarn is from Village Spin & Weave in Solvang, CA. This is the yarn: Peruvian Tweed, Superfine Alpaca. It is unbelievably soft and squooshy.

Even though the yarn is spun with a couple of different colors, it works really well with the IHS pattern. I'm just loving it! I've finished 6 repeats so far, and can't wait to work on it more tonight. I just know my stepdad is going to love this for Christmas!

All of your scarves are beautiful! I can't wait to join the club of finished IHSers. :)

Finally Finished

I've finally finished both of the Hiking Scarves I've made, and they are ready to be wrapped up as Christmas gifts.



This is a fantastic pattern, and has been a fun knit along!

Progress so far

I still haven't finished my DH's scarf. I did finish a coronet hat for my mother and am now making her an Irish Hiking Scarf to go with the hat. I am using Noro Silk Garden Color #211. The hat came out beautifully. I hope the scarf looks just as good as the hat.

I'm finishing up the 3rd skein of Noro Kureyon #57. I'm glad I have an additional 4th waiting in the wings. I'll likely jump on the multiple IHS wagon. I want to make at least one more! Three's A Charm

Well with Christmas coming... I've been in a scarf frenzy. So here are two of my completed IH scarves along with one I just started: the lavender was knit with Plymouth Galway, the dark grey in Brown Sheep Worsted and the light green is Patons Classic Merino. Lavender is for my sister, hubby is already wearing the grey one and the green is for my sister in law.

HI all!! I just wanted to say HI and that I am fairly new here. I just started my scarf and I plan to get some pics up soon on my blog! I am using a cotton yarn that I think is really showing off the cables! I am sooo proud of myself since I have never done cables before! These are wonderful! Introduction

Howdy everyone. I joined recently and figured I should say hello. Hello :)

I started knitting my scarf on Monday morning during my commute to work. I live in NJ and work in NYC and get a decent amount of knitting done on the train. I'm doing the scarf out of a 80/20 Merino/Cashmere blend in a brown/burgundy tweedy yarn that I traded some laceweight mohair for. I don't have any pictures of my progress yet, but I have managed to get through some 15 repetitions of the pattern so far and am very pleased with its progress. Hopefully this weekend I can make some more progress and get a good picture of it for you all to see.

Wrist Warmer Pattern Modifications

Ok, here is the pattern modification for the wrist warmers (changes are in RED)

Worked flat, then seamed up at the end. I used Cascade 220 and size 8 needles

Cast on 40 stitches.
Row 1. (WS) K1, P2, K2, P6, K2, P2, K2, P6, K2, P2, K2, P6, K2, P2, K1
Row 2. (RS) K3, P2, K6, P2, K2, P2, K6, P2, K2, P2, K6, P2, K3
Row 3. (WS) REPEAT ROW 1.
Row 4. (RS) REPEAT ROW 2.
Row 5. (WS) REPEAT ROW 1.
Row 6. (RS) REPEAT ROW 2.
Row 7. (WS) REPEAT ROW 1.
Row 8. (RS) K3, P2, C6F, P2, K2, P2, C6F, P2, K2, P2, C6F, P2, K3

Do 4 Repeats. On the 5th Repeat, work rows 1-5 (finish WS row)
Next row, begin ribbing
Work 8 rows of 1x1 Ribbing
Cast Off

Begin seaming from the top. Seam the ribbed area, then leave a 1 1/2 inch hole for your thumb. Resume seaming using the mattress stitch to create the illusion of the double rib pattern (See photo in previous entry).
