My progress

I finally got some pictures uploaded.


I have only 2 cables because I am using a size 15 needle to give an airy look. The yarn is so soft. Cascade Pastaza.

Hooray! I finished my final Christmas gift!!!
I had a great time doing a cabled project, and encouraging others to do so as well!!!

My Scarf so far

This is the first time I ever attempted cables - and they're really very cool. I was intimidated by them for such a long time - but they're so much easier than I thought. Here's a picture of my scarf so far. I think I'm going to give it to my dad for Christmas.

Turkey Day coming soon

Are you ready for Turkey Day?
My turkey is in the fridge. I hope to cook it tomorrow. That way I don't have to worry about it on Thursday.
I still haven't finished my exchange gift. We will have a Christmas lunch at work on Dec 8. We will have a gift exchange, so I started a hat. I bought the yarn and pattern at Stitches West. When I finish this hat I will have used all the yarn I bought at Stitches West. WOW. That is amazing.
So I shall just keep knitting on everything and hope I finish it all in time for whatever event it is needed for.

Here is my Irish Hiking Scarf done in Classic Elite Lush in the color Black. I made it in a muffler sort of length.

Here is a closeup of the cable pattern. The Lush looks a little washed out, but it was the only way for me to get the detail.

My Irish Hiking Scarf 

IT IS FINISHED AND HAS BEEN GIFTED!!

Well, I am happy to say that I finished my IRISH HIKING SCARF in record time. And it has already been given as a gift! I hope it keeps him warm as he treks to the busway and wait for the bus every day and thinks of me..... It turned out really nice. I want to start another and want to adapt it into a sweater for my son. I am thrilled that I know how to cable now. Some one else said it made them "feel like a real knitter"... I know just what they mean. Now I feel I can tackle anything cabled and not be downright FRIGHTENED!!!!
I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do it!!!!

cable help

Hi everyone, I have an off-line knitalong friend, who is using 3 of the 6 stitches in the middle cable to make an opposite colored stripe of cable. His predicament is that the opposite color on the backside is very sloppy and haphazard looking. Does anyone know if there is a way to remedy this? is there a way to carry the predominant color over the three stitches neatly?? Thanks!!!

Arrrrggghhhh

I was over half done with my scarf using Noro Kureyon and had to frog it. The second skein of yarn was thicker spun and different dye lot. It looked bad. I guess I will make an acrylic one for my daughter...no dye lots!

Finally got started...

Had an unscheduled move just after I signed up to work on this project, and finally got most of the house unpacked and finished up some other UFO's and was able to sit and start knitting it this weekend.

What FUN. This is my first cable project, and I don't understand what the big deal is. :-D Granted, frogging to find a missed stitch is entertaining... haven't figured out how to string a lifeline through cables yet, but will figure it out. Luckily my fiance' is further along in the project and has been able to help with the minor screw ups I started with. :-)

I'll post pics when I get a bit further along. Am already figuring out what color of yarn to get for my brother-in-law in order to knock one out as a Yule present.

Oh, forgot to say... I'm knitting with Wool Ease, a pretty cranberry heather colour, with size 8's. My gauge is coming out just a tad larger than my fiance's, haven't measured it yet, but I'm happy with the size, so I'm not stressing.

Just started

I just started this scarf Saturday night. I'm using Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Brush on size 9 needles. I have two balls of this in grey, so I hope it's enough. I love doing cables and recently learned how to do them without a cable needle. However, this yarn is a bit fuzzy and less forgiving, so I happily pulled out my cable needle again. I have about 12" done so far. I posted a photo on my blog.

Hubby's scarf

I've finished 9 repeats of my hubby's scarf. Since it is to be a Christmas present I will not be working on it much until after I return from New York on Dec 5. I am using Misty Alpaka. It is lovely and soft. I hope he likes it.

It's done!!!

Mike's scarf is done with the exception of weaving in some stray ends here and there. I can't believe that I did an entire cabled scarf. I gotta admit I'm feeling like a true knitter now! It's a good feeling.

Next I move onto my set with the revised Coronet hat from Knitty and my Irish Hiking Scarf in Lion Brand Wool-Ease cranberry. I'm really excited.

First cable project ever!

Howdy! I finally started my scarf, and here is my progress. This is my first project with cables and I am enjoying them immensely. I'm using Lion Brand Wool-Ease worsted in the Pines colorway. I'm not sure I chose a colorway suitable for the cables, though. Seems so dark and the cables aren't standing out yet. I ordered some Cascade 220 last week so after I'm done with this one I may do another with the Cascade, or maybe some Lamb's pride.

Making Progress

Well, I'm making progress on Mike's Irish Hiking Scarf. It's hard to see the cables with the red and black yarn. I think it would be more noticeable in a solid. I've gotten a lot done in the past couple of days, but here's a pic from a few days ago on my blog.

Made a start!

I've managed to get started today as I received my yarn order yesterday evening. What fun this pattern is and I've found that cables are very easy to do! I'd using the "no cable needle" method. I have a pic of it posted on my blog.

I am so happy to join this knit-a-long. I spotted the blogspot one day as I was blog reading and loved the pattern immediately. So I am doing my FIRST knit-a-long and my FIRST attempt at cables..love it!! I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do that!! LOL!! I just started it this weekend and am about 7 pattern repeats into it? How long should I make it for a man's scarf??? I was wondering about that!!!

New to the knitalong

Hi, everyone. I've just joined. I'm knitting the Irish Hiking Scarf for my husband. He picked out Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Lumberjack Red for it. It's definitely an interesting choice for this scarf, but it's turning out better than I thought it would. Because of the chunkiness (is that even a word?) of the yarn I'm only doing two cables.

I fell in love with this scarf when I was practicing on scrap worsted weight yarn and so I've decided to make myself one as well. Mine will be out of Lion Brand Wool-Ease in cranberry. I'm trying to figure out how to make a matching hat. Has anyone tried it or have suggestions for how? I'm a new knitter and although I have some idea of how to do it, I'm not really sure.

I'll post a picture as soon as I can.

The Cascade 220 Version

Hello fellow IHS-knit-alongers....

I have been working on this on and off since mid October, but I am just getting along to showing progress. This is a gift for my brother who just moved to NYC.



DETAIL:


Cascade 220 in Atlantic, size 8 needles. What is shown is one ball (with a small portion you can see left at the bottom). I plan on doing one more whole ball to this one.

Has anyone ever added fringe to this scarf? I am seriously considering it, and wondering if anyone has photos.

Update on my scarf

Here's what I have so far, I'm almost through the first skein of the Denim style. My SIL saw this, and loved it - so it's now destined for her Christmas present, and my brother is getting one to match, only in Indigo Denim Style, so they will match.
