Irish Hiking Cabled Cellphone / Camera Cover

Here it is. I made this yesterday and it was quick and painless. This is my version of the Irish Hiking Cell Phone / Camera Cover. I used Muench Touch Me Chenille which I would say I would not recommend to the new knitter. I loved the texture of the yarn but it worms something awful. One comment please. The 2 pictures were taken on 2 different cameras. The close up of the stitch is the more true to color of the photos'. I had to use my husbands camera to take the photo so you could see what I made it for. Since the yarn I used was bulky it turned out just right. Sorry that the photo is not that great but I wanted to get it done and posted before I leave this morning.

Pattern as followed:
US#8 DPN
Muench Touch Me (Chenille) - several yards not much

C6F - Slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front of work, knit 3,
knit 3 sts from cable needle

Casted on 32 over 3 needles
(Sts per Needle for the Pattern to work 11/10/11)
Join together and work in the round.
Row 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7: K3, P2, K6, P2, K6, P2, K6, P2, K3.
Row 8: K3, P2, C6F, P2, K6, P2, C6F, P2, K3.
Repeat Rows 1-8 three more times. For a total of 4 sets of cables.
Repeat Rows 1-4 one time so that the cable is not right at the edge of the bind off.
Bind off doing the Live Needle Bind Off or Three Needle Bind Off

I hope you enjoy this version of my cell phone cover / camara cover. I simply posted my verison of this pattern since I was unable to get the pattern from the link at the knitty coffeeshop.

Irish Hiking Scarf

Thanks for the KAL!!! I enjoyed seeing all the other gorgeous FOs.

I finished knitting the Irish Hiking Scarf during our trip to the in-laws. I worked on it during the drive (didn't want FIL to see his Christmas gift) back and forth to PGH. I wove in all the ends yesterday and had my Hubby take the picture.

Overall, it is a successful knit. This is my first cable project. I also learned how to knit cables without a cable needle. I may have to make another because Hubby wants one in Red. See my blog for more details.

Newbie to the group: Starting Project

Hello everyone. Thanks for letting me join your KAL. I have been totally intrigued by the Irish Hiking Scarf since I saw it earlier this year. I then recently stumbled onto the wrist warmers that were made from the same pattern. And then just yesterday I discovered you guys. So I just had to join.

Well I started today making the first of two wrist warmers. I was not sure of the yardage on the yarn so I choose a yarn that I knew I had plenty of and that I could make a matching scarf and possibly enough for a hat.

I am using Plymouth Sunset on US#7 needles. I like what I have come up with so far. I have finished the first one and am already thinking of ways to do it MY way. Like normal I can never do a pattern completely as it says too... LOL I like to work on DPN's or in the Round and I think these will make up very nicely in that matter. I am also going to do a buttonhole thumb opening on my next pair. I really love Delia's pattern and thank you very much for posting it.

So far for just the 1 wristwarmer I have used about 3/4's the skein which only has 88yards. So once I have finished both of the wristwarmers I will post the exact yardage I used. I see that several people have asked the same question. I tried to find the answer but I also know that everyone's knitting and gauge can be different. I was so surprised at how easy it was to do. I finished the one over the afternoon.

The funny thing about this was while I was knitting the wrist warmer today my stepson looked at it and said he really liked it and then I told him I could make him a beanie(hat) and he was all jazzed about it. Infact he asked if he could go raid my stash to find the yarn he wanted it made with. I showed him the picture of the hat and now he is wanting to know how long it will take for me to make one for him and then he also ask if I would make one for his buddies J & E. Orders already and I have not even attempted one. As this discussion was going on my dear husband chimed in and requested the first one. So on Tuesday or Wednesday the boys are going to meet me at the LYS to pick out the yarn. I guess I know what I will be working on... LOL

Once again thanks for letting me join. I can see I am going to love it here.

BTW - I have a question for all you cablers. Which way do you prefer to make the cables with? (either a wooden cable needle or a metal hook or the no needle method) Just wondering. I have been experimenting with both the wooden and the metal and so far I have to say I like the straight wooden cable needle the best.

Irish Walking Hat

Hi all! I finished an Irish Walking Hat for my Dad to match the Irish Hiking Scarf I'm making for him (and am 3/4 of the way done). I think it took me around 5 hours to make the hat. Not too bad. My husband was kind enough to model it for me. :) I used about 2/3 of a ball of Patons Classic Merino wool for the hat, and did 5 pattern repeats (before the decrease rows). I like how it turned out, and am sure my Dad will too. I've actually had a request from my cousin for a hat and scarf, so I'm going to go shopping for her yarn on Saturday. :)

Beginnings of a scarf

I've been keeping an eye on this knitalong for quite some time, but I only recently received the yarn for my Irish Hiking Scarf and I finally cast on this weekend. This scarf was meticulously picked out by the recipient - the colors and the pattern. I have to say that is probably a good thing b/c I know she will like it.

The yarn is Knit Picks Panache. Definitely more expensive than most Knit Picks yarn, but it is SOFT!!!! I am also making a hat with it right now - I don't know how great that will work because it doesn't seem to have much bounce, but it seems to be knitting up into a scarf quite well so far. The recommended needle size is 9-11. I started on 10.5's - WAY too loose (and I am normally either right on with needle size or have to go up 1 size). This time I am using 9's and that seems to work pretty well, although it could certainly be knit with 8's. Also, b/c it is a fairly bulky yarn, I am only doing two cable repeats, so this should be a pretty quick knit.

I've just started this scarf for my DH - and I love it! I'm using Inca Alpaca in a blue/green color on size 7 needles. No pics yet, because I need to charge my camera battery. This is one ca-razy KAL!



ETA: Here is a the progress pic...trying to decide whether to knit or to plan Thanksgiving...oh well tomorro's another day, right!

IHS Verde Azul

I'm knitting this scarf from Hand Painted Yarn's worsted weight 100% merino wool, and I LOVE it! This yarn is so soft! This scarf is going to be extra long, and I'm not even half way finished yet, but I can't wait for this scarf to be complete so I can wear it. This is my third Irish Hiking Scarf. I really love this pattern.

Newbie here!

Hello everyone! I'm new to the knit-along but not new to the hiking scarf. I started mine about this time last year knitting it out of Classic Elite 03 Tweed and size 7 needles. It was intended to be a Christmas gift for my dear husband but since I didn't have that much knitting time to put in it last year, progress was slow and I kinda gave up on the poor bugger. I've been hiding it in various clever hiding spots since them, but the beauty of the pattern always keeps me coming back!

Well I'm on maternity leave this year, and have more time to put in it. I'm committed to do right by it and finish it up. Though since my husband is getting a sweater this year, I think I'll gift the scarf to his father instead. Anyway, I have knit about one foot last year and am now up to 16 inches. It's particularly slow knitting since I am knitting it through the back loop to tighten up the stitches between the cables (somehow they always look sloppy and loose when I knit conventionally - like in the second repeat from the needle where I forgot to knit TBL). Here's what it looks like so far:


In case you are wondering, that is my Brittany Birch cable needle woven into it and that pink spare yarn hanging off the needle has eight loops in it to keep track of the pattern repeat. I move to the next loop on every row and when I get to the bottom where the two strands are, I know that I need to cross the cables on that row.

Irish Hiking Wrist Warmers

Irish Hiking Wrist Warmers, made out of Bernat CottonTots. Washable and dryable, and for my 17 year old niece. These were such a quick knit. 2 leisurely evenings and they were done! I did use a size 6 needle, instead of 8, and they are still a little big (CottonTots is the same gauge as 220). I'll have to pop them in the w/d to see what the final result is.

I've really enjoyed looking at all of the progress and FO entries on here - all of your scarves have just increased my love for this pattern. My own scarf is coming along quite quickly in KnitPicks Merino Style, Cornflower. This is about a skein and a half.

Rowan Aran

Has anyone tried to knit this scarf with Rowan Aran? I am having a tough time getting gauge with it. I'm using size 6 needles and after I cast on 42 stitches the scarf measures about 9 inches across! I can't imagine knitting an Aran weight yarn on size 3 needles. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I hate to give up this yarn because I just love the color. And, I bought six skeins so that I could make the hat and wrist warmers.

New to the KAL

Hello everyone! I just joined this KAL last night (accepted my blogger invite this morning). Yesterday I started an Irish Hiking Scarf for my Dad for Christmas. I have only one thing to say about this pattern -- It is amazing!! It's my first cable project and I just love it.

The yarn I'm using for my Dad's scarf is Patons Classic Merino Wool in the colourway "Treebark". It's looking great, if I do say so myself -- though currently I have no pictures to prove it. *lol* So far I have eleven repeats completed. It just flies on by. Once I'm finished his scarf I will probably make the Irish Walking Hat for him as well. And once I'm done that I will probably make myself a scarf as well. It's just such a great knit, how can one not want to knit several of them!?!? :)

Here is a picture of my scarf. I think there are 11 repeats in the picture, but since the picture was taken yesterday I have done couple more repeats. :)

Newbie!

Hi all - I'm a newbie joiner. I started my scarf just a few days ago, and I LOVE IT! It keeps my interested, but allows me to still read blogs while I knit!
Here it is in its infancy:

One quick question - did/are any of you block it? I'm wondering what the benefit to blocking it would be, as I kind of like the "tight" look produced by the cables.

Got it started

I've been admiring this scarf pattern for a long time and I finally got mine started. (I joined the knit along, hence I had to get it started!) It's Plymouth Encore because I had some left from another project. It's going to be a Christmas present for a member of my library directors group. I think I'll do another one for myself in a more tightly spun wool. I've been enjoying seeing everyone's progress pictures. The pattern seems to look great in any yarn.

Since I last posted, I got a little side tracked and have only added 3 repeats to my IHS. I am back on track though and will be working on it again as of tonight. While it looks very similiar to how you last saw it, here is the IHS in Rowan Cork. (Please ignore the weird lumpy looking spot - must be a bad angle or something because it is not there IRL.)
