Merlot for Him

My second IHS, this one in KnitPicks Swish Worsted, Merlot. A special request from my DH. He's always loved this pattern, with Fall in the air I thought I'd treat him to a new scarf to keep warm with as winter sneaks up on us.

Can't Stop

These scarves are kind of like potato chips. You can't stop at one!

I made this one for my special somebody for Valentine's Day. I used Dream In Color Classy, and it took just a little over one hank of yarn. I have plenty enough to make fingerless mitts. This is so amazingly soft and snuggly!

My First Irish Hiking Scarf

Hi All,

This is my first knitalong. It's also my first time knitting the Irish Hiking Scarf. I am really having fun with this scarf. As you can see I'm not very far along. I hope to make many more scarves like this with other yarns. The yarn that I am using is Tivioli Spinners Celtic Aran. It's a dream to work with.

IHS #2

This last weekend I started my second ever IHS, using Plymouth Encore bulky.
Since the yarn is so thick, I modified the pattern to use only 2 cables instead of three. So far it's turning out great:



And with bulky yarn it is going quickly!

(This scarf is going to be for myself, too... yippee!)

My first Irish scarf.....!

I just got my invitation to join and am so excited. I love the pattern and will be making many more. I finished my first one while waiting for the invite. I made it in Wool-Ease varigated "Wood". It is a gift and I wanted it to be washable. The colors are not true in the picture, but I think the picture displays the cables well. I will be starting anther soon. Thanks for the pattern and the invite!

Let's try it once more, there are like 10 drafts, because of a blogger error, please look and clean your drafts lol! I finished this one to go with the hat. It was fun I enjoyed the reversible pattern. Thanks fro allowing me in the KAL.

My First Cabling Project - IHS scarf

Recently tried to pick up knitting again (learned the Garter stitch in my teenager's years) and this was my first attempt in making cables. Like the pattern a lot!

The yarn was Patons Classic in black. The scarf was much softened after an Eucalan wash. I gave this to Dad as a Father's Day gift!!

First ball done

Ok. We went to Lake George and in the car I knit my IHS. I completed my first ball and love the scarf. I can't wait to join the second ball. I was a little nervous about doing a cable because they always scared me but once I did a couple I am a pro.

I just finished my 2nd IHS! Now there will have to be a 3rd for sure!

FO: First Irish Hiking Scarf

Here's my first IHS! It was so much fun, and completed in one week. It's rather long, but you can't tell that by the short stature of my model (Cricket) ;o) More pics on my blog. I used Caron Simply Soft in Teal.

Hi, Just Joined

This is a great blog and KA. I learned of it and of this beautiful scarf on KH and though I have several things OTN :o\.........what's one more right?!? I believe I will make it for my husband's aunt for Christmas.

I think this would look lovely is a Caron Simply Soft. I'm still pretty new to knitting but love cables and recently finished my first shawl, Elann's Sun Ray Shawl.

Anyway... it's done. It looks nice and is blocking away in front of my door.

Hi from Australia

I stumbled upon this site while looking for a scarf to knit for ISE 4 (International Scarf Exchange) - one of the other participants (well probably more than one!) was a member. It looked so cool that I just had to try, even though I had never (successfully) managed cables before.

I am making the scarf using posmerino, a 80% merino wool/20% possum fur combination yarn from New Zealand, a lovely soft yarn.

This is one of those patterns that look a lot more complicated than they are in reality to do. It's also a fairly quick knit. I'm very happy with how it is turning out.

A warning for other knitters who have not knitted with cables before - this pattern eats up yarn; you'll need about 25% more than for a scarf knitted in a plain stitch. I'll be lucky to get a 55 inch long scarf out of the 350 yards of yarn.
