I got TLC Amore yarn, it is medium worsted, and a bit fuzzy. and on sale, did i mention sale? :)

iam goignto go make a swatch now...

I Couldn't Wait!

Sorry, I cheated! I just couldn't wait til the 1st to start. I went out last weekend to buy the yarn and got Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in a natural/tan-ish color. It's for my dad for Christmas; he's getting a hat with earflaps too, at his request. I resisted til Tuesday (and settled for just petting the yarn every so often) but I just HAD to start. I've done the first 28 rows and so far it looks fantastic. If I get a chance later today or tomorrow I'll post a picture :) I can't wait to see how everyone else's scarves turn out too!

I snoozed,

so I losed (sorry - "lost" didn't quite work with this).

I had planned on ordering some superwash Merino from Elann that was in their bargain bin, but I couldn't decide if I wanted to order extra yarn and make a matching sweater (or maybe a few scarves). So, I decided to sleep on (famous last words). I went to place my order and the yarn was gone! darnit!

So, my scarf will be made with some Peruvian Alpaca that was also in the bargain bin. I actually love alpaca, so I'm sure it'll be great. But I really liked the Merino. sigh...

on board at last!

hooray! after various mis-adventures trying to get e-blogger not to hate me, i'm finally able to post to the blog! little victories.

i love the scarf. i'm making it in multicolored (burgundy/red) manos, and it's really nice thus far. this is my first attempt at cabling, and i'm psyched at how easy it is. i think i'm going to make a couple of these scarves for xmas (maybe the next one in rowan polar?). this weekend we're flying east to see the in-laws, so i'll probably finish the first one by sunday! (just kidding -- i need to buy another skein of the manos first).

anyway, happy to be knitting along at last!

Finished one :-)

I jus couldn't resist. So I made a chunky version and then on the 1st I'm starting another. This was a fun scarf to make.

Ordered today...

I just ordered some nice Classic Elite tweed from Elann to start the scarf. I am making one for my dad, but I will probably want to make some for other people too.

Happy birthday, Nolly! :)

Ready, Set...

My yarn arrived today -- on my birthday! I've got another project that absolutely must be finished by this weekend, but I couldn't resist; I cast on and did the first 10 rows -- my first cables! I chose the crocheted cast on, which looks a lot like the basic bind off, so both ends will look similar. I used the tip from the latest issue of Cast On! and worked the chain around the needle instead of picking up loops after. It was slower than long tail, but probably mostly because I've not used it before.

Just a reminder

I've had a few people email me to tell me they're not listed on the members list in the toolbar. In order to be listed, you MUST email me your name and if applicable, your LJ or blog/website. I have to enter that info manually, and for most of you, I only have the email addresses you provided so I could send you an invite. If you'd like to post a comment to this entry with that info, that would be helpful.

Thank you :)

Well, I'm not showing up on the sidebar list for some reason, but everything else seems to be working. I'm actually planning to knit two of these, Christmas presents for my brother and his wife. Just ordered the yarn this morning, so I'm not going to be able to start until it arrives, but I've got a couple of other projects to finish anyway.

I chose Filatura Di Crosa Zara Plus from Elann, in Admiral Blue for her and Grey Marble for him. (It just struck me that this will be the Civil War scarf set, but that's the colors they like.) It's an aran weight, a bit heavier than called for, but a) it's a scarf, who cares about gauge? and b) they live in Minnesota. Heavy is good.

Yarn and time permitting, I may also make hats or earbands of some sort.

We have a button

Adrian of Helloyarn, made us a great button to use! Feel free to save it and upload it to your blog or website. Just please save it to your own server. Thanks Adrian!

Howdy, gang...

This is my first exposure to a knit-along and I'm really looking forward to working on the scarf. I've not done cables before and had been looking for a simple project to practise on when Meg shared the post from the knitting LJ. Thanks for letting me play along.
Picked up the yarn today and just couldn't wait to start something new, so I kick off the pattern tonight. I have 10 rows done and I think it's looking pretty good. I really need to finish a sweater that I'm working on, but you know how it goes when you get new yarn in and it's just sitting there calling to you. Well, ok...I'll just ball the yarn. How many stitches to cast on...Well, I'll just cast it on to see how it looks. How many rows in the pattern? 10 rows later...

If you don't see your name in the sidebar listed as a participant, and you'd like to be added over there, please email me at lisayoud at with your name and your website/blog/LJ, or just your name if you have no site that you post on. Thank you. And I really appreciate everyone signing up. I'm excited to get moving, the cables in this pattern are so much fun. If you know any great cable how-to sites, please post them so I can add them to the sidebar.

Hi knitties!

I think there were a few people here who wanted to learn to knit cables, so I wanted to suggest online instructions that I've found helpful so far:

Yarn Choices?

What yarn is everyone planning on using?
Mine's being made as a Christmas gift so I'm thinking of the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. (It's a splurge, but for a cool person)
