Beginning My First IHS

I've been working on my first IHS for about two weeks now. I'm really enjoying working with cables again, and working with a heavy worsted weight it is easy to do one or two pattern reps in a very short amount of time. After doing so much lace knitting lately, a quick satisfying project like this is just what I needed. It measures 20" so far, and I love the way it is turning out with this yarn (Lion Brand Lion Cashmere Blend).

What a pretty colour and the yarn looks lovely and soft.

And your edges are so pretty too. How do you DO that? Mine always turn out unsatisfactorily. Do you slip knitwise or make some sort of twist?

Jo- thank you for the comments! I wish I could tell you I have a trick to edges, but I think I just got lucky with the nice stitch definition of this yarn. I also have a habit from knitting with dpns that I think keeps edges more uniform: when I've inserted the right needle into the second stitch in a row, I give the yarn a slight tug before I make the stitch to make sure the first edge stitch is snug on the needle. Otherwise I have been following the pattern, doing two stitches in garter stitch at the edges.
