I'm done...

I finished it. It's 2 and a half skeins of Lionbrand Homespun. I had so much fun with it that I am now making a sweater that's similar to it...

For this sweater I'm using Lionbrand Jiffy. It's a chunky yarn and size 10 1/2 needs. The gauge sweatch washed up great and was very soft. (I need to use up some of my stash.)

I have been thinking of making another scarf in cream and maybe another sweater to match. Thanks for this FUN knit-a-long.

Haven't started Yet

I haven't started my scarf yet. But I plan to. I would really like to knit one for my FIL and send it to him. I have knitted my MIL a shawl and some slippers but nothing for my FIL. So I am thinking the Irish Hiking Scarf and a vest of somesort. Any ideas?

Just Started

Over the weekend I was finally able to start the Irish Hiking Scarf. It's been on my list to knit for a long time. Here is a picture of what I've gotten done so far.

Here are the long due photos of the Irish hiking scarves.

I finished the first one about 3 weeks ago. I am not sure I like the stripes, and I should have used smaller needles for the ribbing but hey, you learn as you go. I wanted it wider so I added a 4th cable.
Then I started another cable scarf, using Andean silk from Knitpicks - I love the yarn and the colour. Here, to make it wider, I added 2 stitches between each cable.

Just started!

This is my first knitting project, i have only really done swatches before as practice, but i feel i'm ready to start something cool... and this is a fairly simple pattern, but looks amazing! I started last night, and so far have gotten 4 twists in my cables, its about 7 inches long. I'm using size 10.5 needles because i don't have a huge selection right now, so its loose, but still looks good... i'm using Caron One Pound yarn, just because i bought several skeins of it on sale to use for afghans, but i don't have time to make them anymore, so its best that i use the yarn for other projects. i think that when i finish this scarf, i'll give it to my sister... she loves scarves, and its pink, which i generally don't wear... but she wants me to put a fringe on the ends, which it doesn't need... we'll see what it looks like when its finished though...

a terrible beauty

I finished my second irish hiking scarf. This one I intended for me - it's so terribly lovely - and a bit scritchy-scratchy! I do have the oddest allergies and wearing this close to my face leaves me with bee-stung lips
and a red glow that isn't so pretty. I may need to line it . . . . which would be a good creative venture in itself.

Karaoke

I just picked up this pattern this weekend, after seeing it around the blog-o-sphere for quite a while now. I bought some SWTC Karaoke yarn last week with no project in mind... I just knew that I had to have the yarn. I don't know if it is the pattern or the yarn or both, but I just cannot put this down!



My scarf is actually about 3 times this size right now. These colors blend so nice, and the yarn... It is so yummy! It is 50% soy silk, 50% wool. I think once I am done with this I am going to make the wristwarmers to go with it.

My First IHS

Just finished up my first Irish Hiking Scarf tonight. I also have a few finished iPod socks, too. Pictures are up on my blog, Knotts Knitts. After these few projects, I think I'm a cable addict!

The scarf was knitted in Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Mist on US7 needles.

My 2nd one finished

I finished the 2nd Irish Hiking Scarf on my list. Hooray!! It was my 2nd and final IHS, but my son (who is 4) has asked for one in green so I might be making a mini IRS for him soon.

Start Date: December 15th, 2005 (I think).

Finish Date: January 12th, 2006.

Yarn: Patons Classic Merino Wool in Storm Blue.

Needles: 5mm

The Beginning

My yarn came in the mail yesterday so I started the scarf last night. I'm using Andean Silk from KnitPicks. This pattern is fun to work and I love how it's turning out so far. Not bad for my first cables project!

Well It's About Time!

I joined this KAL a while back and have never posted so it's about time I post something! However, I have finished my Irish Hiking Scarf and plan on casting on for another. This particular scarf was knit with Galway 100% wool, and the scarf is very warm. I knitted it for my husband as he walks the dog 365 nights a year, even when it's a blizzard. I wear it to work every day so I guess I need to either knit him another scarf or knit myself one!

I haven't posted in a while because there hasn't been any progress on my scarf until recently. I've just started the second skein of yarn. :) YEAH!

I love how it's turning out! :) I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or gift it yet. :)

I've Started!

My Irish Hiking Scarf is underway! I chose a beautiful dark green wool blend from Sirdar. It is a DK weight so I had to change from 8's to 7's to get the fabric density I wanted. This is a great take along knit as the pattern is easy to memorize and yet the cables give it a fancy look.

Shel's First IHS - had to go with greens

This is my first IHS. I look forward to trying to figure out the hat also, although I don't have the Stitch N Bitch book to use for the basic pattern.

I chose this lovely green varigated worsted merino from Malabrigo for this scarf. This color is mostly green, with a slight hint of a blue green. The digital camera makes it seem like the blue is much brighter than in RL. I am really loving the color variation, although I might add an extra cable to make the scarf a bit wider for the next one. I am using US 8 needles and have the scarf about 1/2 done. Great to see all the wonderful scarves on here.

Tri-Colour Scarf

I am about a third of the way of my first Irish Hiking Scarf! I picked Patons Classic Wool Merino, in Denim Blue, Cream and Grey Mix. I wanted a baby-blue and I think it would have looked better but this is lightest blue I could find. In spite of that, I do like it very much, and I am having lots of fun! I changed the original pattern by adding a 4th cable (I wanted it wider) and by making a 1x1 ribbed edge. If I have any wool left, I would like to try a hair band wide enough to cover my ears from the cold. I will definitely knit more of these!!

Sheri's First Irish Hiking Scarf

Hi there! I just joined this KAL (it's my first KAL!). I started my very first Irish Hiking Scarf on December 31, and I finished it tonight. (Pictures taken pre-blocking.) I used Patons Canadiana and 4.5mm needles. I really liked knitting this a lot! Tomorrow I think I will pick out another color for the second one. This color is called Oatmeal - sorta beige. My pictures aren't very great - my Kodak software is freaking out and won't let my open any of the pictures I just transferred (even though they are there). These are the first pics I transferred this year. It lets me open all the other ones, just not these ones.... Grrr! I added fringes to this one, but the next one I may just do plain.

I love looking at all of the other members' scarves and hats! It's interesting to see what colors people choose and what kinds of yarns are used.

I just thought I would post a progress picture. I received two skeins of Lionbrand Homespun in Delft, from my daughter form Christmas. I was worried you wouldn't be able to see the pattern, but it's coming along great. I just added the second skein last night so it's grown a little since this picture was taken.

A New Year, A New KAL

I have been contemplating the yarn I will use to make this scarf - I haven't purchased it yet, but will stop by the yarn store on Wednesday. A blog friend made one for a Christmas gift and I was struck by the simplicity and strength of the pattern. Hmmm, what to choose - a traditional Aran off white or a stunning color. I'm off to check out what others have done and will post my yarn as soon as it comes home.

My first hat - for me!

Pattern: Modified Basic Cable/Irish Walking Hat
Yarn: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Cherry Blossom, about 1.25 skeins
Needles: Sz 8 Clover DPNs
Dates: Monday January 26-Wednesday January 28.
Mods: Several - added some more ribbing to the bottom and did 6 pattern repeats and one extra cable section.
Thoughts: Not long enough to fold up, and still a bit too big.

My sister has been clamoring for one of these since I made the first one, so she picked out some yarn this week, and I'll be casting on for hers soon!
