Finished (a while ago)

I finished in time for Christmas but haven't gotten around to posting any pics. My dad loved it. I used 3 balls of DB Cashmerino Aran. The jury is out as to whether or not I should take it back and rip out the bind off and knit another ball's worth (I think it's kind of short). Anyways, here's a photo of the happy recipient!

I had a great time

I had fun making both of my scarves. I have 2 more scarves planned. Hope to start them soon.
I used the pattern to make squares for a blanket. This pattern is so easy to make and can be used for many other items. I'll keep it around for awhile.

I'm done!!

The picture is the scarf as it stood after the first evening, about 25% completed. I'm blocking at the moment -- final measurement is 6' long by 5" wide. I used all of two skeins, and a bit of a third ... the remainder is crying to be a hat, so that will probably be my next project.

I really enjoyed making this scarf ... thank you, Lisa, for hosting the knit-along, and to all of you for posting your beautiful scarves. This was fun!

An update on the end of our knitalong

I wanted to let you know, that since this knitalong ends 1/31, I will be deleting all of you as members sometime in February. Feel free to post your progress, or pictures if you have them, until then! From what I understand, if I delete members, rather than deleting the blog, it will keep the blog available online, but no one can post-- someone correct me if I'm wrong! UNLESS someone would like to keep it going, then I could transfer the administrator status to you. Just let me know and I can transfer it over. If not, thanks so much to everyone who participated to make our knitalong successful!

The Irish Hiking Scarf really helped to overcome my intimidation of cables, and I moved on to the Here and There Cables scarf from Scarf Style. There's pics on my main blog if you want to see a picture.

I actually finished this one a bit back but am finally getting around to posting a photo :-)

This was a late christmas gift for my brother. The yarn is 100% merino from handpainted yarns and is sooooooooooo soft. Loved working with it! I've made 3 Irish Hiking scarves now. And really love the end result of all of them. Great pattern to knit.

My scarf WIP

I just started working on the scarf today and I'm having so much fun! I mark the last row of the repeat with the coiless pin. It helps with keeping track of where I am in the pattern. The yarn is some really nice Windsor Blue Red Heart from my stash. The needle is an old set of Boye interchangeables that my Mom gave me. The only problem with them is that I have to keep tightening the one end. Thanks for letting me join the knitalong.

I finally got a picture of my finished IHS. I loved making this scarf and plan to make more next year for gifts.

I finished my husband's scarf at 4:30 this morning, just in time for him to wear it out on a very cold and snowy day. It's a bit less than six feet long and fits him perfectly.

It's finished!

I've been knitting like mad on the train, trying to get this all done before the knit-along ended (i joined rather late!). I started it the first time with some old acrylic that I found, but it was really scratchy and stiff, so, frogged it and started over with some red 12 ply wool. Now I'm looking forward to winter! (It's the middle of summer in Australia right now).

Slow and Steady Wins the Scarf

I'm making an Irish Hiking Scarf for my husband on a size 10 1/2 circular with Lamb's Pride in that Sandy Heather color. He wanted something that was a more natural color, and when I first told him what the name of the color was, he was certain I had picked something hideous. After the yarn arrived, he realized I would not do him wrong.

It's taking a while to get it finished, even though I started it Friday night.

I finished the IHS last week! This pattern was great! I ran out of wool, so the scarf is more of a muffler size than scarf size...but it will be suitable for a guy.
The cables on this are a little chunky for me, so next one will be on smaller needles. I will be sure to make another one of these, I'm thinking about doing it in a brown Alpaca, but will have to spin it up first. Thanks for letting me join the knit/blog along group...its been fun seeing and reading about all the different ways a scarf can be done. Now, I just need to pack the IHS up and send it off to its new owner...

Almost There...

I have run out of yarn on my IHS, but it is so beautiful that I don't want to frog it. My LYS doesn't have anymore of this yarn and I can't find the band so I will have to search until I find it somewhere else!! This one is on hold till then, but I am going to start another!!

New Year - New Hobby

Last year I learned how to spin and this year I said I would learn how to knit. I half way knew the knit and purl stitch but never did anything with it until now. A friend told me of this site and said to join but I thought she was nuts! She said there were cables - yikes!! But I tried it and with this pattern and her help I actually look like I know what I am doing!! I have done about 17 inches with my homespun. My boyfriend doesn't want it long, he wants more of a muffler and as this would make it rate an FO status sooner I love him for it!! So I am saying I am 1/2 way done. When I finish and figure out how to post a pic I will. Thank You for starting my year off with a bang!

I finished it in December, but hadn't managed to get a picture of it to post. This is done in Wool Ease.

I've started a 2nd one in a lovely bably alpaca for my brother-in-law, it's not coming out as large, but I think he'll like it better that way anyway.

FINALLY finished!

Proof that I'm a ridiculously slow knitter, but it's a beautiful end-product, nonetheless.

The picture does not do this scarf any justice (I had to take it without a flash to capture any of the beauteous cables, and that completely washed it out). Sadly I don't get home from work till it's really dark out, so I have to take my pics inside, and we don't have good lighting AT ALL.


The pattern is wonderful, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my first cabling experience! I will definitely make another one of these when I have some time (the year 2020 is looking good...). :)

Finally done!

I finally finished my IHS after doing my husband's first. I knit mine in Lion Brand Wool Ease Cranberry. I really wish that I could have used better yarn, but I was on a very limited budget when I bought the yarn and it didn't turn out too badly so I'm okay with it for this year, but I think I might try something different for next year if it doesn't hold up well.

I'll post pics on my blog soon. I've been swamped and haven't had much time for anything but work, school, and knitting. :)

I finished the first skein of Lamb's Pride

and it puts me 1/3 of the way there. I'm really happy with the way it's turning out. This is the first time I've tried cabling without using a cable needle, and it's been an eye-opener. I may never use a cable needle again.

just found it

I found this knit along while I was searching for a scarf pattern to knit for the fellow I brought my (second hand) spinning wheel from.I have been spinning Icelandic Wool (with the tog and thel together) in a slubby single, and then using a navajo ply to make a chunky yarn with about 7 wpi. I used size ten needles, but it made the scarf too wide. I then adjusted the pattern a little, so I only have two cables, but the scarf measures a nice 6 or 7 inches wide. I just started yesterday, and love the pattern. I think I can finish before the end of the month, with these big needles and the chunky yarn it knits up fast!

Here's a picture of Stormy (aka the Red Baron) posing patiently with my IHS. It's almost done. I've now got 4 feet of IHS to my name, and will call it done at 5 feet (at which point I can pick up some other projects I've been itching to try.


The yarn is Waterspun 100% Felted Merino wool in a now-defunct dye color (I call it 'red' for lack of a fancier color).

Finshed scarf

I finshed my hubbys scarf. He is happy with it. I'll take a picture today. I should try and get a picture of my mothers hat and scarf when I go over to her house today. Then I can post both of them. I'm trying to do a yarn destash, I may make a few more scarves from this pattern just to use up the yarn.

Running in late, I'm psyched to have started my scarf

My husband was starting to get a bit pouty about my knitting for everyone but him ... well, he can complain no longer.

I started the scarf this afternoon, and it's going really quickly. I also followed the instructions for cabling without a needle ... what a great trick. I'm going to be making this scarf extra long (my husband is 6'7", a 5' scarf won't do), and it's shaping up to be the perfect project to while away the hours at my son's swim meets (he swims two events, each event takes about 30 seconds, and they are always scheduled hours apart. Sigh.).

I'm using Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride worsted, in "Bulldog Blue". Once this is done, I'm making myself the same scarf, in Lamb's Pride "Kiwi", with the Coronet hat from Knitty. (I'll post a picture later ... I tried to post one just now, but it was huge and sort of fuzzy.)

Thanks for letting me join so late in the game! I doubt I'll get both scarves done in the next four weeks, but then again ... there are four swim meets this month.

my IHS

hi...thanks for letting me join the knitalong. i'm making this for my boyfriend, whom i've never seen wear a scarf in the 4 years i've known him. but i showed him this and he liked it. i told him he better wear it or else! nothing like a good threat :-) i'm using some mystery yarn that i picked up at one of my LYS. it's soft and kinda fuzzy. but it's gray...which is a nice "manly" kind of color, i suppose. i've got about 16" done (i did 5" just today!). here's a pic from when i first started:

Lopi IHS

I knit mine in a cranberry lite lopi - perhaps a bit furry to show off the cables, but looks great! I will try to get pictures.

I still need a picture of the recipient wearing it!! But it's been in the 50's and 60's here!!! So we haven't even needed coats, let alone scarves!!!

Hi All, someone posted a lovely pic a while back in Noro Kureyon and gave me the idea to use the 4 skeins of #116 I had. I'm not sure who the recipient of this one will be yet. Sure have enjoyed this knitalong and seeing everyone's scarves! Bets

My Scarf

I actually finished my scarf some time ago, but didn't post about it here as I was only able to get a crappy picture. Today though, the sun was streaming into my living room, and Santa brought me a new digital camera, so I thought I'd try again. Here's the result:

I really enjoyed knitting this scarf. The pattern is simple yet fun, and I loved the yarn I used too (Jo Sharp Silkroad Tweed in Russet. Thanks Adrian for this fabulous pattern!

Just got started

I just signed up Thursday and got started last night. Thanks for letting me join so late! It was fun to learn cables again (it's been...hmm...15 years?). I remembered pretty quick. Like riding a bike! I'm using Lion Brand's Wool Ease in Rose Heather, since I have some left over from The Afghan I knit my inlaws for Xmas.
